Motorized road traffic is one of the essential features of modern civilization. All the benefits of this phenomenon, unfortunately, are still paying high prices of undesirable human suffering. The rapid development of the entire transport system, in particular road transport sectors as an important element of the system, has resulted in a large number of traffic accidents, and therefore the insufficient level of traffic safety. The man, vehicle and road are fundamental factors that affect the safety of road traffic, and only their common reviewing, analyzing and improvement can contribute to a safer traffic flow. Within this work are given all these factors of safety with all their characteristics and features, where a special emphasis is placed on the man, who is the biggest culprit for most traffic accidents (about 95%). Also, it was made the division of traffic accidents that occur every day, for make them easier to analyze, but also to come up with solutions for putting them easier down. As for accidents in the Republic of Croatia, which is a special consecration attention in this work, we have provided statistical data for the period from 2006. to 2016. and presented the measures that the state has undertaken to improve road safety. These measures are part of the National Programme for road safety, which is enacted periodically, through every few years, with which the transport system is trying to approach the contemporary effects of transport, both in Europe and in the world.
