Concessions in the maritime domain ensure the possibility of using the maritime domain for economic purposes. Their role is to facilitate infrastructure development and promote fair and efficient use of resources. Concessions serve as mechanisms for temporary use or management, and are essential to facilitate the achievement of these goals. The Republic of Croatia has established a legal framework for granting concessions on maritime domain, as stated in the Law on Concessions and the Law on Maritime Domain and Seaports. These laws describe the process of awarding concessions and the conditions of their use, define the rights and obligations of concession grantors and concessionaires, and incorporate mechanisms for the protection of public interest and environmental protection in the process of using maritime property for economic purposes. By applying the legal framework, Croatia lays the foundations for sustainable economic development in the maritime domain, while at the same time ensuring the preservation of natural resources and ecosystems.
